This custom patio project required a more advanced solution than a standard kit could provide. The client wanted to keep the area as open as possible, reduce the number of visible posts and create a structure that worked within a smaller space while still meeting engineering requirements.
The design involved a high-span steel frame, wind loading considerations and a concealed post detail to keep the area open and uncluttered. The structure was also affixed to the existing house, with load transferred back into the existing building structure as part of the engineered design.
Other companies were unable to provide a design that would pass engineering, so a custom approach was required from the start. This project is a strong example of the value of custom steel fabrication and practical construction knowledge, especially where site constraints, span, wind loading and structural requirements all need to be resolved properly.
